Have you ever really wanted to do a personal project, to master your passion and share it with the world, from a hobby like writing a book, to completely changing the course of your life and starting your own business? If yes, then did you have a feeling that definitely you will do that, it’s just NOT the RIGHT TIME, and that you are still not READY?
I got inspired by having a session with my amazing colleague coach, to reflect and dig deeper into my personal blockers for success and I discovered a piece of wisdome they are teaching me, so I wanted to share with you.
So what came up? I believe that I am not the only one who was brought up with the idea that you should be the expert and feel confident before you start doing something, and that’s ok... up to the certain extent.
But this kind of thinking also opens the door for inner "gremlins" that sabotage us, saying we will never be ready. So,
HOW do I MEASURE my expertise?
WHAT will make me feel confident?
Will I wake up one day, feeling "expertish", or a sign "expert" will appear on my forehead? Will it make me an expert if I finish one, two, three highly rated courses with valid certificates? If I read 5, 10, 20, 100 books? What if I explore all available resources online? Maybe I should get mentoring from the best experts in the area? All this is great, and we should use these resources and never stop learning... but is this a guarantee that I AM an EXPERT? Will it make me feel confident? I don’t know about you, but usually it’s “oh, just this one more course, and one more book, and, and, and...” it NEVER ENDS.
And in reality we are chasing our own tale. In the pursuit of becoming an expert, we are actually postponing one of the most powerful things that can bring us to this place - jumping into the fire, and just doing it! Learning from experience! Failing and getting back up again, wiser!
As the answer to the question in the title, I realized two things:
We shouldn't wait for the right time, as it will never come!
The RIGHT time is NOW!
So give yourself a gentle push into that fire, do one thing that is stretching for you today, and make one small step closer to your dream! I know, I surely will!
Experience is what you get when you didn't get what you wanted. And experience is often the most valuable thing you have to offer.
